Rottweiler with Bone Cancer in Mouth
Posted on 27. Jan, 2012 by admin in Cancer
This is our rottweiler, Teddy, he is almost 6 years old and was diagnosed with bone cancer last month. I’m posting this video so other people will know what the mouth cancer looks like, and also so owners of rots understand how young these guys can get cancer. You can get a cancer screening for your dog at your vet – we didn’t expect Ted to get cancer so young, so we hadn’t gotten the blood test done, and within a month, the tumor went from the size of a cashew to nearly the size of an apricot. It only LOOKS like I’m hurting him by opening his mouth, but I assure you, he’s fine (he was actually taking sort of a nap when I took the video). Thank you.

Correction on my previous comment: It is the fourth most common cancer in dogs. More awareness should be made of this cancer in pets.

My dog had the same cancer back in June, except on the lower jaw. We could not save him and he only lived 3 more months. It also would have cost us 10,000$ for chemo, radiation and surgery: and that is no guarantee that it won’t come back. It is a very aggressive form of cancer. Some say online that it is from something they put in the dog food. Apparently homemade dog food is better. Like you, we were sad to see him go. 1 in 4 dogs die of this cancer.

Sorry to hear that Ashley. My rott is 6 and a half years old, he has swollen gums on his upper jaw. The vet said it is cancer without scannin or anything. I will go with the surgery for him. After that I don’t know…Hope everything turns well for him.
thanks for your message.

@ThunderliciousB There wasn’t much we could do, considering the area in his mouth where the tumor was located. We just kept him on painkillers until he wouldn’t eat anymore – make sure you check prices of painkillers from other pharmacists, we were charged over $40 for 10 days worth of pills at the vet, then when we checked at Walgreens, we got the pills for a little over $10 for 10 days worth. I wish you the best with your rotty!
