I am actually not intimidated by dogs for the most part. I don’t come in contact with many loose dogs…but I would have to say Rottweilers.

I’m not really intimidated by any dog breed.
If i were to meet a large leonberger i might feel a little intimidated but probably not .

None. I don’t really care for chows, but I will work with them. Pitties and rotties and dobies…I love working with them. Giant babies.

i actually am scared of the Tiny little yippy yappy barking growling dogs that like to bite ankles.
those are the kinds that always chase me down the street.

breeds would be mostly chihuahuas i guess.
and other misc. little dogs and mutts.

I really don’t find any dog intimidating… I can usually tell if they are scared or not very friendly…I think too that dogs can sense if you are scared..but once when I was walking my two dogs at night a pit bull snuck out of his owners house and ran up on me while i had my back turned! that was intimidating

I don’t really find certain breeds intimidating. The only dogs I find intimidating are loose ones on the street without an owner, because you never know how they will react.

If I had to pick a breed, I would probably say Terriers and Toy dogs because most of the ones I have met were feisty and hard to control, or openly vicious, or just plain annoying and yippy/snappy.

I love all dogs. I’ve never seen one that was intimidating. The only problem I’ve ever had with dogs is them trying to climb in my lap when they don’t fit.

Any dog that doesn’t seem like it’s under it’s owner’s control.

It’s not the breed so much as the dog itself. I’ve seen good and bad dogs in all breeds. The only dog I was ever bitten by was a Dalmatian.

While I’m not “intimidated” per say by dogs I’m familiar with, a strange Rottweiler, shar-pei, chow chow, doberman, or German shepherd are all dogs I would be VERY cautious around until I established some rapport with the dog.

With nearly any pit bull I encounter in a public setting with a lot of people around I have no problem walking right up and asking if I can pet the dog. They are typically VERY friendly towards strangers (they suck at being watch dogs for this reason). I wouldn’t go near one with my own dog, however. That would be asking for trouble.

German Shepard – was bit by one when I was younger.

In the doctor’s office last week an employee from the SPCA was talking about her job. What she said was very interesting and enlightening. She received more calls about pit bulls hurting other animals and Shepard mixes hurting people.

And to the person who commented on Chows. Why do you dislike the Chow breed?

I’m not intimidated by any breed really. Certain dogs I don’t trust. I had a pit bull come into my yard a couple of weeks ago. He looked as if he had not been fed on a regular basis. And there was just something in his eyes that told me to back away slowly. Individual dogs yes, breeds no.

I’m not usually intaimidated by any dogs, I love them to much but most poeple are intimidated by german shepherds, pit bulls, rotts, mastiffs, dobermans, dogo argentinas, akitas. Alot of the large powerful dogs.

I’m not intimidated by any dog.

But I do not like small yappy mouthy ankle biting dogs. Chihuahua’s, yorkies, those “designer dogs” like maltipoo’s and whatever. I just can’t stand how often they attack because of how tiny they are.

AND NO IT ISN’T CUTE WHEN THEY BITE.
I never understand why people think it is.

Quite frankly, I’d rather deal with a large aggressive dog than a 10lb aggressive cat any day. I have to agree with Mr. Taco and DP. I am not intimidated by any particular breed, but untrained and clearly out of control dogs concern me. The individual behavior of an individual dog in a given situation is what people really should be worried about, not the breed or mix that a dog happens to be. I am not generally intimidated by St. Bernards, they usually have very nice personalities, but one of the clients at the vet where I work has a downright aggressive Saint who is known to lunge at people…and that is NOT a dog I want to be around.

I am not intimidated by a certain breed, but am instead intimidated by untrained dogs, unsocialized dogs, and poorly controlled dogs. Does not matter what the size or breed is.

I am intimidated by small dogs, you know the toy breeds. Not all of them, just some. They are so small I am afraid that I will step on one.
I was also bit by a chihuahua, and a shih tzu did not like me. I know that not all are like that but, still.

Most people would pick the dobermans, chows, shepard, pitt, or husky.

Mine are the chihuahua, shih tzu, and the pomeranian. Oh and a mix: (pit, chow, lab, shepard mix) when I know the dad is mean! that is intimidating. Small breeds I might accidently break or they might bite me, the mix.. I just shudder. this one scares me.

Edit: I agree, untrained dogs and poorly breed dogs (tempermental) intimidate me.
I also thought I would see more large breed dogs on this question.. wow. impressed.

I used to find Rottweilers Intimidating. When I was about 5 a stray rottweiler bit me (it was my fault, I gave a dog that I didn’t know a BIG hug). But once I got older and started working with animals through volunteering at an animal shelter, and working at a vet clinic, I met a Lot of very friendly rottweilers, and I am no longer intimidated by them.

GSDs and Great Danes, chow chows and occasionally huskies…. I am not really intimidated per say, as I believe in judging a dog on their own merits, but those are the dogs I’ve had problems with the first 2 I’ve been bitten by and those are the ones I keep a closer eye on until I know them.

Really it’s a dog to dog thing, those are just the one’s I’ve been in contact with that scared me. Really though I don’t give them a second glance unless they’re giving off a “vibe” that they should be watched.

There’s something about very large dogs that initially intimidated me. Small dogs are also that way – I’m intimidated by their fragility, if that makes sense.

I don’t think of particular breeds that intimidate me, though. Fortunately, there are lots of great dogs of several varieties around where I live. I’ve been lucky enough to encounter mostly very well-behaved, non-intimidating dogs.

I’m not intimidated by any specific breed. Any dog can be dangerous, aggressive and whatnot, while another dog of the same breed can be calm and super friendly, its all in how the owner trains it. I wish the BSL supporters would realize that.

Chihuahuas, any little dog that is yapping pretty much. My neighbor has a medium sized (80 lb.) mix, and it’s all white and has a really short coat. Looks kinda creepy and sorta scares me. It kind of looks like a dogo argentino. It’s not a nice dog either. Other than that i’m not really intimidated by dogs much, unless they are all wild and crazy and not under their owners control.
